Suicide is a tragic and potentially preventable public health problem. In 2000, suicide was the 11th leading cause of death in the U.S. Specifically, suicide deaths outnumber homicide deaths by five to three. It has been estimated that there may be from 8 to 25 attempted suicides per every suicide death. We need more help and less duplication. Please sign the following petition.

We, the undersigned, recognize that there is a great need for additional suicide prevention programs and that it is in all citizens best interest for the government to assist in funding these efforts.

We know that people are able to connect to help and hope through suicide prevention hotlines and 1-800-SUICIDE is a working solution to connecting local care givers to people in immediate crisis.

The only way this system works is through the understanding and integrity of keeping these lines completely private and data confidential. We do not want to see the US Government controlling suicide prevention lines or having access to the personal identifiable data.

Suicide prevention data must be kept completely private so that callers who receive help can go on to live healthy and productive lives without any stigma or discrimination being used against them.
